Brett Shirley, DDS, MD, FACS
Dr. Shirley is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and one of only a few dozen oral and maxillofacial surgeons nationwide to hold the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery's Certificate of Added Qualifications in Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is fellowship-trained in maxillofacial oncology and microvascular reconstruction and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
He earned his dental degree from UT Health San Antonio and his medical degree from UT Southwestern. He then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and his fellowship in Fort Worth. Before founding Piney Woods Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2018, he directed the oral and maxillofacial surgery service at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport.
Dr. Shirley trains the next generation of surgeons as core faculty for the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency and head and neck fellowship at Willis Knighton Health in Shreveport, and as associate faculty at John Peter Smith Health Network in Fort Worth. He has written textbook chapters and journal articles and lectures nationally, including a live-patient course on nose and upper-jaw reconstruction at the 2019 ADA FDI World Dental Congress.

His care ranges from extractions and wisdom teeth to dental implants and full-arch "teeth in a day," facial trauma, and jaw reconstruction. Patients can choose in-office IV sedation or, for more extensive procedures, general anesthesia at the Surgery Center of Nacogdoches, just down Stallings Drive from our Nacogdoches office, or in the hospital.
